Terms & conditions

1. Meters & installation: terms of service
A prepaid meter is a device that helps the user control and regulate the usage of electricity or water. It works much like a prepaid cellphone: you pay upfront before you use it, which eliminates large unexpected monthly bills.
Flowsort Electrical meters are sub-meters and do not replace the municipal or Eskom prepaid meters.
Vouchers
Vouchers are purchased by tenants directly from selected retail outlets and ATMs, and are reimbursed to the landlord. The landlord acknowledges and accepts that Flowsort will reimburse the funds received from tenant voucher purchases on or before the 7th day of the month following the date of purchase. The landlord is responsible for ensuring that the correct banking details are supplied to Flowsort Electrical.
A service fee of 10% excluding VAT is levied on vouchers purchased via retail outlets and ATMs. A service fee of 7% excluding VAT is levied on vouchers purchased directly on the Flowsort Electrical website or requested vouchers. Any payments rejected due to incorrect banking details furnished by the Property Owner will make the Property Owner liable for an administration fee.
Meter performance
The cost of installation is included in the cost of the Flowsort Electrical meter. The equipment must be installed by a qualified installer capable of issuing a Certificate of Compliance. Installed equipment carries a 10-year warranty with free maintenance, provided it is not tampered with or operated by an unauthorised person.
Flowsort Electrical is not a generator, supplier or distributor of electricity or water. Electricity and water are generated, supplied and distributed only by the relevant authorities, and Flowsort's function is to supply meters for measuring, monitoring and management. Flowsort accepts no responsibility for non-supply or interruption of electricity or water to the premises, particularly where it falls under the control of the relevant authorities. The Property Owner indemnifies Flowsort Electrical against any claims from a consumer, occupant or other party arising from non-supply, interruption, leaks, power surges or similar events.
Flowsort Electrical is solely the supplier of the meter and will not be held responsible for claims from the municipality, owner or any third party for damage, breach of municipal regulations, incorrect installations, bypassing of municipal meters, fraudulent installations, damage to premises or consequential damages. Such claims are for the owner's account.
Tariff
Flowsort will load the electricity consumption tariff on the system in accordance with the Property Owner's instructions. Obtaining the correct prescribed tariff is the Property Owner's responsibility, who must verify it with the relevant authorities and inform Flowsort. Where no tariff is provided, an average rate will be used. Supply and operation remain subject to municipal by-laws, the Electricity Regulation Act 4 of 2006 and all other relevant legislation.
The Property Owner must check that the monthly municipal bill matches their prepaid meter collections and notify Flowsort immediately of any discrepancy. Flowsort is not privy to the owner's municipal billing and is not liable for such discrepancies, but will make every effort to help resolve them.
Flowsort prepaid meters are configured to operate on Flowsort vending systems only. Changing to another company incurs a key change fee, requires a signed key change form, and ends Flowsort's lifetime warranty and support.
Support fee
All meters installed by Flowsort carry free support. Where a customer requests a call-out and no fault is found with the meter, Flowsort may levy a call-out fee at its discretion. All Flowsort meters are monitored for tampering and performance, and the Property Owner will be advised of changes. Rejected payments due to incorrect banking details, transfer of ownership or key change make the Property Owner liable for an admin fee.
2. Online meter orders
- Prices are in South African Rand and include VAT where applicable. Orders are confirmed only once PayFast confirms payment.
- Payments are processed by PayFast. Flowsort never receives or stores your card details.
- We'll contact you within one business day to arrange delivery or installation. Installation is subject to a site check; if a site needs extra work, we'll quote it before starting.
- Under the Consumer Protection Act and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, you may cancel an online order within 7 days of delivery for a full refund of the goods, provided the meter is unused, uninstalled and in its original packaging. Faulty goods are covered by warranty.
- Refunds are paid back to the original payment method within 30 days.
3. Refund Advance
- A Refund Advance lets an eligible Flowsort prepaid meter customer withdraw, early, up to the amount of a refund already pending on their meter account.
- A flat administration fee of R50 is charged per advance and is deducted from the amount advanced. For example, on a R500 advance, R450 is paid out.
- Advances are available from R100 to R5 000 and are limited to the refund Flowsort can verify on the applicant's meter account.
- By applying, the customer authorises Flowsort to settle the advance from the pending refund once it is processed. No further repayment is required where the refund covers the advance.
- If the refund is reduced or cancelled after an advance is paid, the customer must repay the shortfall within 30 days, or Flowsort may recover it from future refunds or vouchers on the account.
